ADHD
Thorough psychiatric evaluation and individualized medication management for ADHD in adults.
Approaches Used
- Medication Management
- Psychoeducation
- Executive Function Support
What this often looks like
- You start things with real intent and lose them halfway, repeatedly
- Deadlines only become possible once they are an emergency
- Conversations slip away from you while you are still in them
- The admin of ordinary life — bills, forms, appointments — quietly piles up
- You have been called lazy or careless for years and never believed it fitted
What the first appointment covers
The first appointment is a full psychiatric evaluation, not a questionnaire. We go through how attention, organisation and impulsivity have actually shown up since childhood, what school and work looked like, and what you have already tried. We also rule out the things that imitate ADHD: untreated anxiety, poor sleep, depression and thyroid problems all produce the same fog, and treating the wrong one wastes months.
How it is treated here
Where medication is appropriate, treatment usually involves either a stimulant or a non-stimulant, and the difference matters: stimulants act within hours and are adjusted quickly, non-stimulants build over weeks and suit people who cannot tolerate stimulants or prefer to avoid them. Prescribing follows a minimum-effective-dose approach, starting low and changing one variable at a time. Medication is paired with practical work on structure, routines and sleep, which is what keeps the gains once the dose is settled.
What to expect, and when
With a stimulant, you and I will usually know within the first week or two whether the direction is right, because the effect is same-day. Non-stimulants take four to six weeks before a fair judgement is possible. Either way, expect frequent short follow-ups at the start rather than a single appointment and a repeat prescription.
Questions patients ask
Can an online psychiatric provider prescribe ADHD medication in Connecticut?
Yes. Federal rules currently allow practitioners to prescribe controlled medications, which includes ADHD stimulants, after an audio-video telemedicine appointment, with no prior in-person visit required. That flexibility runs through 31 December 2026 and is reviewed by federal authorities before each extension. Whether medication is appropriate for you is a clinical decision made at the evaluation.
I was never diagnosed as a child. Can I still be evaluated as an adult?
Yes, and it is common. ADHD is a lifelong condition, but it is frequently missed in people who were bright enough to compensate, or whose difficulties were read as personality rather than symptoms. The evaluation looks back at childhood evidence as well as at your life now.
Will I have to switch to a different prescriber for refills?
No. Follow-up appointments and prescriptions are handled in the same practice, by the same person, and prescriptions are sent electronically to the pharmacy you choose.
